About The Work:

One of my great "loves" is the COLOR WHEEL. The symbol for infinity was easy to adapt with one more loop making it perfect for becoming a TRILOOP - allowing 3 primary colors. (red, yellow, and blue) running through the center - turning into the secondary colors on each loop. The renewal theme is the perfect example of constant change - orange sheds its red - returning to the yellow sun - mixing with the blue sky becoming green - which means so much more today than ever before. The politics of red verses blue softens with its purple of independence. As the color wheel travels round and round - renewing itself - adding and shedding - it speaks a language of color. Where you started - you always return. Where you began! Who would have thought that only 3 colors could be all that? Just go to your paint store and stand in front of the sea of color samples. Remember....it is only YELLOW - BLUE - and RED.......JUST LIKE LIFE

About the Artist:

My name is Mark Dornan. I am a sculptor.

I played music to put myself through art school (School of Visual Arts, New York City) in the late 1960s. I have supported myself through art for the six decades since.

My work ranges from incredibly small, intricate sculptures to very large format pieces for indoor and outdoor presentation. I work in wood, metal, clay, fiberglass, and other mediums.

Some of my work has been in the public eye, albeit in obscurity, for many decades. For example, I have a giant sculpture hanging on the corner of 7th Avenue and Bleecker Street in New York City that has greeted every passerby since 1986. Cantilevered off the side of a building is an 8-foot tall fiberglass soda fountain paper cup with a slice of lime which reflects the sunlight.

I have also been a model maker for corporations such as Disney, Warner Brothers, Mark Jacobs, and many more.

For the last year with Covid, it has stagnated the art world. There were no shows. Virtual started up halfway through the pandemic mainly for 2-dimensional work. This was not conducive for 3-D and experiential art like my own.
