About the Work:
Fear and Wonder is a two-part sculpture. Each piece is a metaphor for the contrary instincts of curiosity and survival. These divergent impulses work in harmony to help achieve a passage into a prosperous future.
About the Artist:
Sean Harrington (Green, RI) received a BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island College in 1986, and a MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1989 before returning to Rhode Island College to earn a MAT-C in 1991. He has been an Art Teacher since 1992 and currently teach Ceramics/Sculpture and Digital Art at Bartlett High School in Webster MA. Harrington’s sculptures are created in a modular steel arch building using a century old blacksmith forge and modern welding equipment.
Harrington explains: “My Sculptures are inspired by nature and myth. They are metaphors of the unknown depths of time and space. Their ambiguous biological forms explore the conflicts between spirit and reason. They express the fear and wonder of the unknown while embracing the myths and fantasy that seem to calm our worries and give us a sense of immortality.”
